New island – new country – Corsica
After many weeks in Italy and also some weeks in Norway we were ready for France. I had french for two years in school, 35 years ago so I looked forward to see if I remember anything from that.
From Elba we sailed north to the island Capraia Isola and had one night on the southeastcoast before we head over to Corsica at the northern tip. We got suprised by two fighters which came around the northern tip, right against us, close to our mast. I was reading a book about 2WW so it was a bit scary!!
We had our first night at Baie de l’Acciolu. Quiet and no swell, no other boats.
The next day we sailed to the anchorage Golfe de Revellata, just south of Calvi. What an amazing place! Just a couple of other boats, quiet, and the water was so clean!!
It was a beautiful trail from the anchorage to Calvi town and took a evening walk to check it out.
You could choose from different trails and it was stunning anyway!
We came closer to town and it was a little bit of climbing up and down and around, like this big rock in the middle of the trail.
A small bay with a beach close to town.
The castle in Calvi is amazing
It was nice to walk around the streets, many things to shop, but expencive!
In the harbour
The harbour! It looks like it is a beautiful plce to stay with your boat, but it is too expencive for us!
After walking to the supermarket, Super U et Drive, which was amazing, we walked back to city center and up to the castle.
People on Corsica thinks Cristopher Colombus was born here and his house is close to the castle.
The view from the castle towards the marina. The supermarket was on the other side of the marina.
Selfie!
It was quiet walking around in the castle, almost no people around.
Monument Aux Morts
16. of August 1918 the steamer Balkan was on her way from Marseille (mainland France) to Bastia (Corsica). In the morning the ship was hit by a torpedo 8 nautical miles north west of Calvi. 417 people, guests and crew, died in this attack, while 102 people survived.
We walked a little bit different route on the way back, closer to the sea.
We should have had more time on the way back, because it was so beautiful walking there, but it was almost sunset and I had only my sunglasses, so we had to be back in the boat before it was dark.
Some places it was pritty narrow.
This day it was mothersday in France so I got a rose at the supermarket!
Here is the trail we walked to Calvi. We found this on alltrails.com.
The next morning we were ready for a new hike to the lighthouse at the end of the peninsula.
Some old ruins at the beach.

Walking from the bay up in the hill.
In the hill you will have a beautiful view towards the bay.
After a short distance with a path you will come to a gravel road and walk along that for a while.
Before you start on a path again. It is wide open landscape so the view is amazing all the way.
There are some nice bays where it could be possible to have a swim.
Not very steep hill so everyone can walk this.
Nice flowers
A little bit up hill from the road, but very nice walk.
On the top.
The view back to the town and the mountain behinds. Corsica has one of the best hikingarea in Europe so I really wish we could have spend more time here!
On the other side of the peninsula.
It is a bit steep to walk down to the lighthouse, but it was okay for me.
Unfortunately the lighthouse was closed, something we knew after reading about the place. It would be a nice place for our lunch/snack.
At the lighthouse we turned around and walked back to the boat.
It was like walking through a garden.

A beautiful flower on a cactus.
On the way back we walked along the sea. It was beautiful!
Nice trail!
On this side of the peninsula there were many beaches.
It looks like dandelion, but this is more yellow than the flower we have in Norway.
We are almost back to the boat. This was a beautiful hike.
The trail to the lighthouse:
We sailed further south and our plan was to stop in Ajaccio to do some shopping. But when we came around the corner before the Ajaccio bay we saw many people hiking around the peninsula, and one other boat were anchoring already so we decided to have a stop there for the night. We took the dinghy ashore to the beach.
This is a really huge open bay so I was sure it would be a rolly night. But it was so calm and I slept good!
We walked around the peninsula. There is a tower on the top of the hill but it was not possible to walk there.
There was a restaurant and a touristshop.

At the end of the peninsula you will find a picture where you can see the names of the islands you see.
A really nice trail to walk in the evening. I guess it would be amazing here around sunset.
***
A little bit uphill and then downhill, but everyone can do this trail.
The view back to the boat, and further into the bay you can see a bit of Ajaccio.
A stunning coastline!
***
A narrow trail on the other side, but still very nice to walk!

A perfect evening walk!
The next day we sailed into Ajaccio, but unfortunately the shops in the city center was too small and had nothing. We had a plan to stop in Bonifacio, but the wind took us over to Sardinia. We could also sail back to Binifacio later, but we didn`t had time for that. I wish we could spend many weeks here, at least a month!
