Back to Italy to explore Sardinia
The sound between Corsica and Sardinia is not easy for sailors and often you have to wait for a weatherwindow. We had good wind from Ajaccio and decided to sail directly to Sardinia without any more stops.
We anchored first in a bay on the northern side, Spiaggia Porto Liscia. It was after sunset so it was just to have a good night of sleep. The next day we sailed further east and we saw this animal on the top of a mountain. Have you seen something like this? I thought first it was made by people, but actually it is just a stone!
After a while I received a message from a Norwegian woman, Anne Grethe. She and her husband Fred was also sailing in Sardinia and was anchoring in the next bay, Cannigione!! So we changed the sails and turn into the fjord to meet them. We had a lovely evening together. Anne Grethe is also writing a blog, you can read more here:
Olbia
The next day we sailed to Olbia. The weatherforcast was not good, too much wind, and we wanted to rent a car to explore the island. There is a few marinas there but they are too expencive for us, so we moored at the town quay which is free until 5 days. And luckily there was almost no wind there, and even it is in a town there were no noise!
We had a walk to a supermarket and walked through the main street. Very cozy place, and a lot of tourists.
I like colours!!
We walked through a huge park before we arrived at the supermarket.
The town quay was almost full, but it could be place for more boats if it was more rings on the quay to tie your ropes.
You can see it is a lot of space between the boats.
In the evening we went back to the main street to fine a place to have dinner.
And we found it. It was very expencive here so we didn`t had a huge meal!
The next day we took the bus to the airport to rent a car. It is so much cheaper to rent a car on an airport rather than in the town. We drove to this beautiful beach at the east coast. Astor had a swim, but I think it is still too cold.
But an amazing place, and the water is incredible clean and blue!
It is a beautiful place to anchor in the right weather conditions.
Punta Gurturgius
The day after we had a plan to do a hike we found on alltrails.com:
We had to drive a while, up in the mountains. And along the road we had an amazing view over the island.
Sardinia is a beautiful island, unfortunately we didn`t had time to explore all of it.
We found these stones along the road. I can`t tell what they are for. But here is what google told me:
Menhirs, or standing stones are elongated stones that were erected during the Neolithic as part of the megalithic culture that developed and spread across Europe. Erected individually or in groups, with dimensions that vary considerably, several hundred dot Sardinia and are known as perdas fittas, or “stuck stones.”
We didn`t know when we parked by these stones that some hours later we should be at the top of that mountain!
We parked here by the restaurant Punto Ristoro “Locanda Ammentos”. They have really good reviews so we should have stopped there to have a meal, but we had lunch in our backpacks!
You cross the road from the restaurant and start walking on a farmers road. And it is uphill. Really uphill!!
After a while you can see down to the restaurant.
And the view is amazing!
Specially the last part of the hill is really steep and I was so glad that we had another choice to walk back to the car.
We have seen so many lizzards, but this one had amazing colours!! And we had time to take a photo. Normally they are running as soon as you seen them!
Here you can see the highest mountain, and that was our plan. Astor was not sure if we could make it… If you look at this photo you can see all the stones. It was not a good path at this moment, and we had to jump from stone to stone, and make a plan where to go…
But some nice flowers in between the stones!
Finally we found a trail (we didn`t follow alltrails map, because we felt it was wrong.
But we manage to climb to the top!
And down there, by the road, you will find the stones.
Yes I know, if you are a photographer you will think this photo is wrong. And I know! Because I should turn the other way, to the view. But if you can see where I am standing it was hard to place my feet, and on the other side it was steep!! And on the other side, I am not the photographer… 🙂
Here is a photo of the mountain when came down the hill. We walked up the green line in the middle.
Since this was an aroundtrip we still had a way to go. And it was really hard to find the trail. We tried to follow the map from alltrails, but it was not easy.
And some places it was so much thistle it was hard to get through!!
Amazing view on the other side of the mountain.
This last part was good marked (almost, we had a problem once to find the trail but that was because we tried to follow alltrail….)
The last kilometer was a nice trail inside the forrest and not steep at all. The best part of this hiking. This aroundtrip was not long but we used so much time to jump on the stones in the beginning.
Here is our track!
And I will advise you to see this video from this hike:
We delivered the car and it was time to leave Olbia.
We sailed out of the bay and further south on the eastcoast. We anchored in Cala Cirgolu and had this amazing view towards the island of Isola Tavolara.
We had an amazing evening there. And the funny thing was that a woman visited us, because she saw our Norwegian flag. They were three Norwegian families in a holidayhouse in this bay!
Felizia in the sunset!
The next day we sailed north to Golfo Pevero further north. After a while we got a message from 9-2-5, which we met in Malta and Sicilly, they were anchoring next to us!
We went ashore to have a hike in the area. Many boats in the bay!
The trail started from the beach and the first part was in sand!
Not steep hill but nice view further up the hill.
And you could do some gym on the way!
Nice trail!
And gym for me as well!
You could choose from different trails.
It was a beautiful hike this morning!
Back to the bay and now it was more people on the beach!
9-2-5, Marco and Juju (from Brasil/USA) invited us for lunch before we had to leave the bay. It was so nice to see them again!
A short video from our sailing that day!
From that bay we sailed to Castelsardo. We anchored in the bay and thought it should be a rolly night (it is a wide open bay), but I slept very well.
Beautiful colours on the houses here. We should have had more time here, but we had a weatherwindow for sailing to the Balearics.
It was beautiful weather and we had dinner on deck.
We also had some guests who wanted dinner….
The last evening in Italy.
In the morning we went ashore to do some shopping before we left this beautiful place.
We had a lunch/swimmingstop in Passagio Della Pelosa, in the northwesternmost tip of Sardinia.
What a place! Look at this water!!
It was so sad we had to leave! But I had a swim before we left!
And then, we left Italy. We did a nightsail to Menorca, it was long and at the end it was too much waves. I was so happy when we came into the bay of Mahon. But more about that next time!!
