That’s how far north we got…
Mali Losinj
Monday morning and we started early to sail to Mali Losinj. A friend gave us some nice tips for this area so we wanted to check it out. We found a quay where we could stay for free for some hours to do some shopping, but we did`nt stay there for so long, because it was in the middle of the day and very hot!!

A nice little town, I wished we could see more of this. But we decided to find a bay instead to have a swim.

We found a very nice bay right outside Mali Losinj and had a nice stop there. Our plan was to go north to Pula and Rovinj, so after a short stop in this bay we started to sail north… We had the wind right on the nose so we knew we had to use some hours to hit the mainland. I honestly felt a sleep for a moment (or two) and when I woke up after a while I was sure we were half way to Pula… eh.. no… There is an island southwest of Losinj, Susak, and we had sail there twice… (Astor did while I was relaxing) If we should sail it was actually not possible to go north. So we sailed around Susak and had a plan to find an anchorage there, but after checking the weather forcast we decided to go back to Losinj and skip the trip to the mainland.
If you are a sailor you will see why we skip the mainland on this trip:
We were in Rovinj 3 years ago, so we did`nt had to go there, but it would be nice to see it from the seaside. Here is a photo from Rovinj, october 2019, taken from the church tower (I will not recommend you to go up there) You can read more from that trip in my other blog:
https://lailasturblogg.blogspot.com/2019/11/europatur-rovinj-kroatia.html
So we sailed back to the bay at Losinj and stayed overnight there. In the morning Astor got some company on his morning swim. It was like swimming in an aquarium!
The weather forcast was not good for this day but since the wind came from north we decided to sail south. Then we would have the wind behind us. (it is my favourite)

A lot of boats thought the same
Vir
We sailed to the island Vir, and had a stop on the north to see “Red Stone”. If it was less wind there we could have anchored, but we sailed further on south on the island.

We sailed to Vir town and anchored right outside the old fortress Kastelina.
In the evening we took the dinghy into town.
We had an amazing burger at Kraken Bar Vir.
Back in the boat we had a youtube evening outside
What a night!! The worst one on this journey… Some people had a home party until 5 in the morning… and it was not a quiet party.. I guess I did`nt sleep at all. So at once we woke up we started to sail on.
A beautiful sailing this day!
Zadar
We sailed to the town on the mainland, Zadar. We have two bicycles onboard, but we have problem with both of them. It was 2 km to the bridge which goes over to the old town of Zadar, so it was perfect to bicycle. So first Astor had to go to a bicycle store to buy new tube for one of them and new tube and tire for the other one. And he fixed it!

Ready to go!
A nice bridge only for walking

Zadar is a beautiful town, but it was to many people.. Not my first choice for later.
In Zadar they have a special thing. It is a sea organ and this is an experimental musical instrument which plays music by way of sea waves and tubes located underneath a set of large marble steps.
Solar panels
They have a roman forum in the old town, but no sign or information about it.

I had to take a photo of this guy… but I also had to pay him for that… if not he would have run after me…
In the eastern part of the old town there is a small park.

It was a nice park, but maybe it is nicer when it is more flower… The first one is not that big, you can reach the whole park within 20 minuts.
On the other side of the road there is a bigger park. There we found this choir practising. Very nice!

We were a bit lucky because when we went back to the boat it was right before sunset.

Our boat in sunset
Murter
After Zadar we sailed south to the island Murter and Kosirina Bay.
In the morning we took the dinghy ashore to have a morning walk.
I saw a road in the hill last evening and wanted to hike up there.
You can see Murter town far away

the view back to the bay we stayed in

I swam back to the boat while Astor took the dinghy
Sibenik
A nice gennaker sailing all the way to Sibenik
St. Nicholas Fortress
When you are sailing gennaker all the way to the city center, through a narrow sound, you have a lot attention from other boats, and also we got some thumbs up while they were filming us.

my next airbnb??

Sibenik is a beautiful town, but we saw it only from the seaside. It was very expensive to stay in the marina here.

We sailed to the bay around the peninsula from Sibenik, but it was not worth taking a photo. There are water sport and that evening it was a competition in something, I guess maybe beach volleyball. And after that was finished it was disco until late night… no sleep…
Next morning we sailed to a small village Zaboric to do a grocery shopping. A small quiet place, we could anchor in the middle of the bay and take the dinghy ashore.

The Wall of Ostrica
I guess this is one of the best views on our journey so far. This is the The Wall of Ostrica. It was build to keep the turkish people away. This massive wall, 10 meter high and 1 meter wide is one of the prettiest example of Medieval defense walls in Croatia.
Reed more about this on this blog:
We took the dinghy ashore and walked up on the west side of the wall. It is not a track there, you just have to find a way. It is no place for older people who have problem with rough terrain.
You can also walk this small road, but you will not come that close to the wall

On the south side of the peninsula. Once it has been possible to climb over the fence here, but they have taken away one step in the ladder, so you needed long feets to make it 🙂
We took the small road back to the dinghy and walked over the fence on the north side. From there we walked along the wall until we saw a small road we could follow up the hill.
***
It is not many meters high, but in the middle of a day with 30 degrees… It is possible this road is pretty new because there were two machines there (not working) and when we came down to the road again it was sign that it was not allowed to walk there..
It is a beautifull view from the top of the hill
You have to climb over this to walk on the western part of the peninsula. Pritty steep on the east side.
Next morning we decided to check out this small road on the peninsula. We could see on the map it would go all the way to the end.
Morning birds 🙂
Lot of places with nice view on the way
Good road almost all the way

At the very end we walked more in a forrest
And you come to this small church. It was so small it was not possible to walk inside.

This is the end of the peninsula from the seaside. This hike took us two hours and was around 8 km. Even if we started before 8 am it became very warm. So it was nice to jump in the water when we came back to the dinghy.
The weatherforcast said it would come some wind directly against us where we anchored so we decided to hoist the sail and go south. It was some heavy waves and wind, so this is how the boat looks like after a rough ride!!
We had to go to Split on tuesday to pick up new guests so we sailed to Poljica, which is in the same bay as Trogir, but on the west side and less wind than in the east side of the bay. Nice place, and actually a sandy beach. But here it was cold water (24 degrees).
Next week we will have guests onboard and we will sail around the island of Brac, Hvar and Vis.
