Cavtat – check out of Croatia

We left the bay monday morning and had the wind against us all the way

***

It was time to check out in Cavtat, where we checked in 8.of July. I hoped I could a walk in the small charmy town, but it was not possible for me to go in the dinghy. (or walk that much)

***

We anchored in the bay and after a while we got some company from a norwegian boat, MyWay, Bjarne and Ellen. We also had a line ashore. We had a nice evening together and also lunch the day after before they started sailing north. (they checked in here)

Their boat, a Contest 50, on the way north

We had a plan to check out the same day and leave for Montenegro, but it was already late and we needed some hours to sail to Kotor Bay. So we moved the boat to the other said of Cavtat. It was too rolly to stay in the other bay.

It was better to stay in this bay, and we had a beautiful sunset

In the morning it was time to check out

It is not easy to see, but there is a yellow Q to the left for the sailboats. You have to go there and moore with the stern to the dock. The captain needs to go to the harbour master and port police. When you are checking in the crew have to stay aboard until all papers are okay.

From Cavtat to Kotor Bay we sailed with gennaker. When we come close to Montenengro we saw Black Pearl coming out of the bay. We have seen this yacht many times when we follow “Feel the Breeze” youtube-channel. They have a base in the same marina.

This is still Croatia, but the bay and the mountain behind is Montenegro

We had to do the checkin in Marina Porto Novi and when we stayed there, Viking Sky passed by. This cruiseship had a dramatic episode in “Hustadvika” in Norway in march 2019 where they had to evacuate 190 passengers. I was born in this area so we followed this on the news.

In Porto Novi you will find the Port Police outside of the Marina. A guy met us once we came to the quay and we felt very welcome.

We sailed to Sveti Marko and anchored there for the night.

Some photoes of Tivat. Here is also the exclusive marina Porto Montenegro where you will find Black Pearl

A nice beach with a stunning view!

In this narrow strait there is a ferry going between Kamenari and Lepetane. There are 4 ferries and the runs continuously as soon as the ferry is full. It costs 4.5 EUR and takes 10 minutes. Be aware of this ferries when you sail here.

We sailed to Morinj and anchored there for the night. It was so quiet and idyllic. We could se on the other side of the fjord MSC Fantasia, as we also met in Split.

This place could be my dream. A small camping with space for around 10 caravans, a house with some guestrooms, breakfast in the garden, beachside…

This is the most quiet anchoring in the bay, but it could also come some wind from the mountains. And that what was happened that evening. Right before bedtime the wind changed from zero to 30, maybe more, knots, and we dregged hundreds of meter, lucally, out in the fjord. We new it was some bouys there so we hoisted the anchor and took a bouy. The bouy costs money, but it was dark and an “emergency” so we took a chance. Early next morning we left the bay.

Outside the town Perast it is two small islands.

This is the Latarnia Morska, a church from around year 1500 which the inhabitants of Perast build (also the island)

And here you have the catholic monastery of St. George, build around 1100. Because the monastery is active it is closed for visitors.

***

Perast seems to be a nice town but it was not allowed to anchor there, so a bit unavailable for us. I have a plan to go back to this bay one day, then I will bicycle around the whole bay and stop in every small place. I will also use days to hike in the fantastic mountains.

Perast with the amazing mountains behind

It has been some wildfires here as you can see, pritty close to the houses

This is from the other side of the bay, in Prcanj. The old catholic church seems to be a monument one day. But now it is ruinous state and the church is closed. A lot of people are still hiking up there, so maybe next time…

We saw this whole in the mountains right before Kotor. It should be an amazing spot (not for me…)

The weather was a bit cloudy but we also had some sun. We anchored in the bay, and for the first time within a week a was ashore, walking. It went slow, but it was okay.

We also had some grocery shopping here before we went back to the dinghy

I had a dream hiking up the mountain here, but because of my knee I could`nt do it this time. It is two places to walk, one normal route pass the church, or more to the left where it`s less people and you can hike up to 900 meter above sealevel. The normal route takes you to the fort.

Yes, I know… boats… I love to take photoes of boats, old churches (and new) and flowers…. you will see a lot of them in this blog. This is Celebraty Constellation, it is a more exclusive cruise.

After visiting Kotor we hoisted the anchor and sailed out of the bay.

We found a bay to anchor more south. It was very nice, but very rolly…
not much sleep that night

***

We had a plan to stop at Sveti Stefan, but it looked very closed.

Next week we will leave Montenegro and sail to Albania for some days!
